Hi all,

Preplanning for a solo trip to Williamsburg and Jamestown area spring 2006. Want to absorb the history, specifically wood working, weaponry, and beer. Although not at the same time.

Anyplace special I should make it to? I'll be without the bride and munchkin, I can see more without them and they aren't interested.

Thanks

Ive been to both places. Check out the glass blowing area in Jamestown and the flintlock gunsmith in Williamsburg.

**will be watching this thread closely**

I went there with a Scout troop what seems like 50 years ago (though I'm only 38), and I've always wanted to go back. We didn't get to spend enough time there -- it was too much of a whirlwind tour.

The last time we saw anything about Williamsburg on TV, my wife decided we ought to move there and she'd spin/knit all day and I could pump the bellows for a blacksmith or something. ;)

Hopefully someone will share a mother lode of information.

There is a cabinet makers shop there.
Coopers and carpenters.
Blacksmiths and Gunsmiths.

I think it'll be entertaining...

Williamsburg is one of my favorite places (even went there on my honeymoon!). Jamestown is okay, will take a couple of hours to go through. There are two "Jamestowns". One is the actual site, with an archeological dig. The last time I was there there wasn't that much to see. Just a bunch of foundations. The reenactment place was a little more fun. Definately check out the boats. Can't believe that people crossed the ocean in them.

Williamsburg itself is awesome. Get a pass, and just wander around. The gunsmith shop is very cool. Strangely, the shoemaker was really interesting too. Go tot the governor's mansion and check out the muskets lining the dome.

45-70?

You can get into all the exhibits and see behind-the-scenes stuff for free! All you have to do is wear a long, puffy dress, with a white cloth, tie-down cap, and low heels! An apron is good, too.

Practice saying "I'm the new girl," in a high-pitched voice before you go.

Oh, and shave closely. :)

Barring that, bring walking shoes and money.

Be well and safe.

Or in my case my V-8 powered Rollator. Money is always good no matter where you are. I'm sure looking forward too our trip to Phoenix next month. The first sign I see that says, "Real Navajo Frybread" I'm stopping!!!! Damn but those Navajos make good Frybread!!!!
And we're buying more than one piece apiece no matter how damned fattening it is! :p By gollys we'll be on VACATION!!!! :grumpy: :D ;) :p

Gee thanks Kismet. Now that you mention it I thought I saw you at Friendship last summer, but at the time I didn't think so with that dress...

Was it the one with the gathered sleeves?

I don't wear it much. I think it makes me look fat. :)

Dear Grumpy Bruise,

I will happily buy you a copy of Dune, send it to you if only in response you will let us all know what you thought of the book.

I have to warn you though, there isn't much knife talk, and the sex isn't that graphic...
