Hey fellas,
I have a bit of a problem and i wanted to ask some of you guys much wiser than myself for a bit of advise. Ok, long story short, the windows of my business' storefront used to have some vinyl window sticker lettering on them. Upon removing the lettering from one of the windows we found that the there was some gummy stuff left over so we used some Goo Gone as well as some other cleaner/removers to try and get the gunk off. It melted the glue and has left nasty white streaks all over my window. I've tried everything that i can think of to get it off. windex, amonia, even muriatic acid won't phase it. I have a sale this Saturday, and i'd REALLY like to at least lessen the ugliness of my window. Do you guys have any suggestions? TIA.

WD-40 always worked for me removing label gunk and didn't seem to leave any residue at all on the glass... unless your glass got harmed in some way from the previous stuff used? Doesn't hurt to try it.

Strange.

Try wetting a little of it and scraping gently with a single-edge razor or sharp knife. If you don't see any clear glass under your scraping, you're probably out of luck. If you do, you might try acetone (being careful not to let any run down into your seal), or TSP (trisodium phosphate) in a fairly strong solution. TSP will leave it's own set of streaks but that's easily cleaned with Windex.

Good luck.

Thanks guys,
i've tried the razor blade thing before i posted, but it didnt work all that great. I'll try some acetone. i need to pick some up anyway. I have a few knifes that i want to take the finish off of. Worth a shot anyway.

Thanks for the concern, Bruise. The acetone will be my last ditch effort to get this stuff off. can't be much worse than gagging myself with muriatic acid which ate my sponge then burned a stain into my boot and then got down into my gloves and felt a bunch of fire ants with poison ivy stingers. I'm starting to wonder if its been chemically hammered into the glass. Oh well, worst case i'll hang a vinyl sign over the deformed window. Thanks again fellas.

The key to dissolving window goop with WD 40 is leaving it on long enough to soften the sticky stuff.

If that doesn't work, you might want to try Hooflex. :D It's good for everything. YMMV. ;)
