I've just joined the 501st PIR of the 101st airborne WWII reenacment group and am trying to get my period clothing together but its darned expensive. $250 just for the uniform alone. Another $100 for the steel pot and so on. Its a great group of guys and they do a great job of honoring the vets with their reenactment work. Just wondering if anybody has any ideas on how or where this equipment thing might be done a little cheaper ?

I would try Shotgun News. They have allot of Army surplus, try a searc on the webb or suscribe to their paper.:)

Talk to the other guys in the unit first, you don't want to shell out for things, budget-priced or otherwise, that won't meet the unit standards. Plus I bet some of them will have their first-generation stuff still around, what they started with before buying the good stuff. Good luck, I've always wanted to do reenacting but so many hobbies, so little time...

Try browsing the internet specialists for insignia, etc. Remember having some bookmarks for that but still slowly rebuilding after something ( probably me ) wiped all my bookmarks out.

I got a coupla items from Omaha's Surplus. They also list the time period of some of their items on their website.
