First of all, before I go any futher, I want to tell you that I truly hope everything is going better for Jessica. I lurk here often but have been away due to having a brand new little boy of my own. Having kids certainly changes your perspective. When I read about Jessica's pitiful cries, it darn near broke my heart. I've been thinking about her and I hope that my prayers do her some good.
My mother in law is coming into town this weekend, and says she wants to smudge our house to bring good luck / drive out the bad luck so my employment situation will improve. I need a steady job. I've been substitute teaching regularly, but it is never a guaranteed thing. She's very into the whole new age scene and has no idea about what she is doing other than what she may have read in a book. I am curious if this is a good idea or not. I mean, I wouldn't think of laying a Jewish/Catholic/Hindu/etc. blessing on a home (or anything for that matter) if I was not of that particular faith. It seems a little disrespectful in the first place, and also... well... like we may be opening ourselves up to something that we may not be prepared for.
Does that sound corny? Or overly superstitious? Or am I completely off base here? What do you think about this? Thanks.
All my best,
David
