Has anyone used Netzero as a internet provider? I need to change in the next day or so and am not sure what to switch to.

Can't help you Pappy.

7-8 years ago I signed up with a local outfit that had been going for a long while that had a good rep, good service when I needed it , and a local phone number to call with problems and a UUNET user group you could look at to see what others problems and gripes were. The company was present there.

Recently they got bought out by some big company and the last time I looked at the Website, the only way to contact them about problems was e-mail. Big farking help if you can't log in. The headquarters is way back east and I'm in southern Kali.

It's like picking a bank, they all get bought out by worse, God help you.

Truely suks. Good luck, we all need some at times.

I'm not sure about their 9.99 service tho. I go with Yahoo. It bills to my SBC bill.

Pappy ,
You might want to look at this site:
http://www.freedomlist.com/
They have a pretty comprehensive list of ISPs, with costs , features and user comments listed.

I have used http://www.access4less.net/ at $5.95 a month for the past year and a half and been very happy with it.

I've also tried http://kamudi.net/ for about 2 months(testing it for my girlfriend) at $5.25 and it has been very good but does not offer any tech support.

I use NetZero as a backup (10 free hours a month) and it has always been reliable. I don't know about their email service as I seldom use it.

Regards,
Greg

I use netzero at home. It's worth the $9.95
Don't get the 14.95 "Hi Speed" though - that's practically a scam.

Of course, Netzero still calls itself the Leader of the Free Internet World. 10 hrs. a month...

Anyway, I haven't had any real problems lately.

I was one of Netzero's original customers when they started up with unlimited free internet years ago. Too good of a thing, I think. Anyway, I've stuck with them since then. They went through a period of pop-ups, banner-ads, etc. that was extremely annoying. Thank goodness that's over!

I use their email as well - but I check it through Outlook Express.

We use DSL through our local cable co. No phone lines tied up and the service is 24/7 and very fast. Me likee:D

I'll figure out something.

Mamav, I don't think I can afford the cable thing right now. 13 Miles of that cable wouldn't be ytoo cost effective for me as a retiree. Sometimes living 15 from town has it's draw backs.:D :)

Pappy, look in your local papers like pennysavers, or community bee, usually any of the free newspapers or the ones that are only targeted to your vicinity.

Usually in most, you'll find ads for ISP's who are local. Small guys offering service for $5-$15 per month, sometimes cheaper by the dozen.

I've used these in the past, and it's always been MUCH better than AOL/MSN/etc... the large companies suck and they don't care... find a small guy who really wants your business, and you'll find it's quite worth what you pay.

Also, try in the phone book under Internet Service Providers and you should find about 10-15 places, give each one a call, and ask them prices. Find out if it's unlimited usage, and ask if they offer a trial (usually 1 week) This allows you to see how connecting to them during busy hours goes, as well as overall speed, etc.

I found about 4 local guys with the above methods, and all of them are very solid. I've referred them alot of customers, and i've not heard of a problem yet.

Best of luck!

That sounds like an idea to take a shot at. I have run into problems trying to get with Netzero already. I think I am going to have to run my recovery discs and start over.:)
