Hi All,

I planning to purchase an out-the-front auto knife here soon.

The Benchmade Pegan and Infidel were the two I’ve been considering but that’s only due to the fact they are names I’m familiar with.

The purpose of buying this knife is solely becuase I just want one. It will probably never cut or stab anything (with the possible exception of my finger).

Do any of you have any advice or recommendations on good OTF autos?

My budget is around $550.00

Protech is hard to beat
If only they actually made a D/A OTF like the ones the OP mentioned:rolleyes:

The Infidel action was underwhelming to me, and I haven't handled a Pagan. The Guardian Tactical Recon looks nice, and my Microtechs have all been nice and snappy but you may need to build up your thumb strength.

With your budget, pretty much everything but a Deadlock is open to you...what kind of size range are you looking at?

I agree with the others here that have recommended Microtech. I personally have an Ultratech by Microtech but have handled many other models and I can tell you that you’ll be happy with any Microtech you choose. They put the Benchmade otf’s to shame in my opinion.

I’d have to agree with the previous posts re Microtech OTFs........much snappier action than the BMs I have, and much more reliable.
Action on my Infidel is sluggish compared to my Ultratechs.
Good luck!

If you are spending upwards of $500 the knife that will hold it's value, is the Microtech, it's the standard that all other OTF Mfg's try to build their knives up to but in the end they are not Microtechs.

Thanks for all the great advice.

I guess the blade length I would want ranges from 3.25” - 4.00”.

It seems evident that Microtech is a really good knife.

If you can find one on the exchange, grab a Microtech Scarab. I have a 2011 version that I've been using consistently since then and it still operates perfectly. They are also the perfect EDC size IMO, with a 3.5" blade and a nicely proportional handle length.
