Recently, I purchased a single action OTF, apparently a Halo 3 clone. Lit the fire for an actual Microtech. Anyways, the knife was ok, and I didn't think the quality was horrible until I happened to jab it into the denim-covered foam leg on my BOB dummy. Blade pushed right into the handle! The lock failed, and continued to repeat the behavior. I wrote the knife off, but, never being able to leave things be, decided to pull the knife apart and see what was what. I believed I could fix the lock up, and decided that while it was apart, I'd try a little pimp work. If I screwed up, it was on a worthless knife, right?
So, after fixing the lock up, I decided to etch the blade with a splash pattern and satin finish the blade flats. Here are some pics detailing the process.
Original blade.

Nail polish applied.

Etch complete.

Nail polish stripped off.

Bevels satin finished. They're not perfect, the area under the fuller is a low spot, but I'm happy with them. This blade looks even better in person. It really, really pops.

Putting it all back together...

And assembled.

I'm very happy with how this project turned out. F**k clones, but I'm glad to at least have a functioning knife again. I'm looking forward to beating this knife to hell now. It'll get a wicked edge in the next couple of days.
