I asked back in 2019 about a Buck otf in the future. Now again autos continued proliferation with help from knife laws being passed why is Buck still without an otf for the catalogue?

Sog and Boker this year will have one, and at some point possibly Kershaw will have an otf. Buck, do you not see the huge opportunity with this? Come on, I'll put my card down on a pre-order let's go!

There's talk of it.

What are the advantages of an OTF knife? They seem like an inherently weak design to me. I like that once opened the Buck knives I own are sturdy and can be counted on, especially my 110's. I have a couple of liner lock Bucks, but I would never depend on them hunting or camping. An OTF inspires absolutely no confidence in me. Help me here those that know better.

the micro tech otf design is quite strong. there are some downsides to the otf. dirty knife retracted with tape residue, or sticky fluid will gum up the action and create failures. easy to fix though by wiping blade clean before retraction....or using naptha to clean internals once in awhile works well too.

the advantages are easy and quick one hand open and close compared to a side opener auto. side opener without a safety is an accident waiting to happen..unless carried in a belt sheath like the Buck 110 auto. double action otf are much safer for pocket carry. single action otfs have to have a safety. plus they are fun and cool to play with and that matters more than practically.:D

I’m waiting for the fixed blade version with a retractable sheath. Kinda the opposite of otf. I’ll call it the bitya, back in to ya, or wtcf where’d that come from? Lol.

That would be a Tekna Microknife;)

If Buck builds one it would have to be well engineered and perform very well. If it doesn't the line will flop and be discontinued shortly. Half ass costs more in the long run. If you want the respect of a different market it must look right, perform right and not be made from 420 steel. Its not that the steel is bad but the buyer of a OTF has steel prefrences. Done right should fetch 200.00 on up. And don't release some 1.5 blade that doesn't perform or be useful. I cant image the R&D costs more to build a OTF that has a blade length of 3 inches or more than a OTF with a 1.5 inch blade. The larger blade will appeal to the guys who buy them. The small version will be a novelty. And not riveted together.
