I want an otf for Christmas but I can't decide between the benchmade infidel, mini infidel,or microtech ultratech. I am 13 and I love knives but I only get one shot at getting an awesome knife every year at Christmas. These three seem like the best double action otfs that are not cheap, but not overly expensive.

Well for one those aren't what most would consider cheap knives in any regard. As well as there are plenty of much cheap and just as functional OTF knives. Such as the Lightning. That would be my suggestion if you want to try an OTF knife. I own a few higher end ones and honestly they're not as functional and useful as you'd think, more a toy. They jam easily and the nature of the knives means they always have a moderate amount of play in the blade. Basically for the price of the knives you mentioned, I'd skip the OTF idea and by a Paramilitary 2 or Para 3 and save a hundred or more.

If you want to give OTF's a try, look at some of AKC's stuff. Affordable, and as durable as the technology allows at an affordable price-point

OTF's don't make great EDC's, but if you are set on one. I have heard really good things about the newer Hogue OTF's and the Microtech Ultratech's. If I have some spare cash sometime, I may try one, but they are not very practical. IMO Fun though! I have a BM infidel. Not my favorite knife, pocket clip broke in days and it was the double edge model. Would have liked it much more if it was a single edge.

ultratech all the way, the benchmades have a trigger in the most uncomfortable place. Microtech has amazing fit and finish, and reliability.

You can get a lightning from bladeplay for around $40 Good starter and if you like them maybe next year Santa might bring you a better one if you're good all year

If your heart is set on an OTF......get a good one.
The Ultratech is awesome! I have a red one with black blade and serrations and it is a trip to carry!
Lot of fun and has an incredible cool factor!!
Also have a Mini Infidel and I'm a Benchmade fan, not much of a Microtech fan, but the Ultratech blows it away.
Not much blade play at all.
Good luck!!

I know people love Microtech but personal I prefer the BM and I find the full sized infidel a good size for me and I'm ~5' 10" to give you an idea of size person I am.

are these legal at your age in the city, county and state you live in? make sure your parent (s) understand the laws as you are a minor. depending on where you are and what you do with the knife can be a felony and that can hurt your rights as an adult on firearm ownership and legal carry, voting and pretty much everything.

all that aside i like microtechs and the benchmades. i own more microtechs, but hard to not like an infidel.

I recently purchased a Microtech UTX-85 in green and bronze. It appears to be exceptionally well-made, but I am not sure that I will keep it as it is noisier and less comfortable than a lot of other knives I own, and it is more difficult to open and close than, for example, my Benchmade 527. In general, I am not fond of assisted-opening, though I do like the double-action feature of the OTF knives, but the action is intentionally difficult (a built-in safety feature in lieu of a lock) so it is not as easy to operate as many manual folders.

If I were to keep it, I'd need to find a spare troodon clip from someone, or just a shorter clip, as I am also not a fan of the long clip included with these currently.

I would recommend the UTX-85 over an Ultratech based on size. I would have preferred a Troodon but could not find one in stock for a price I was willing to pay. The ultratech is noticeably larger.

Keep in mind the Microtech makes these in batches, so yo may need to wait to find the configuration you want "in stock". And do please be sure it is alright for you to even own, much more carry, before you purchase. Laws can be fairly restrictive regarding automatic knives...

Another vote for an Ultratech. Back in the day, BHQ did a survival video with one. Madness, subjecting it to the dreaded B word, but it held up well.

Outside of the fact that you're 13 and these are all silly expensive I'd ask for the Benchmade because their warranty is actually usable.

Personally I would go for a benchmade because it has a great warranty but not the infidel the new phaeton looks better is less expensive than the infidel and has better steel.

Btw nice to know there is more teens into knives than just me!
