In the khukuri FAQ under the heading "Variants, Interpretations, Special runs, and Other Manufacturers Khukuris" there are pix of a Tarwar, a Baghmarne, and a kora and I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on the history of these things.

Re: Koras
P.S. Rawson, The Indian Sword: "Despite the fact that in modern times the kukri has come to be regarded as the national weapon of the Gurkhas, its form shows that it is a weapon of purely Indian descent, related to the Kopis-bladed sword
of Ajanta and the modern Rajput Sosun Pattah. The kora is the true traditional Gurkha weapon."
G.C. Stone, Glossary of Arms and Armor: "KORA, CORA, KHORA. The national sword of Nepal. It has a very heavy, single-edged blade much incurved and widening greatly at the end, which ususally terminates in two concave curves."
John Powell, who is busily cornering the world market in koras, will no doubt be along shortly with more and better info.

Berkley,

Has anyone every remarked on the resemblance of the "Kora" to the Philippines "Panabas"? Check out the picture at Kris Cutlery.

Rene,
Similar blade shapes for sure. But looking at pics of panabas in Stone's Glossary and even the one on the Kris Cutlery website, I get the impression (quite possibly mistaken) that the panabas is sharpened on the convex edge, not the concave edge like the kora. Anyone have any personal experience with the panabas?

It is reasonable to think that the khuk was a product of Greek, or other culture. Alex did take over the world.

What if Xerses and Darius would have won.

It was close.

No democracy and no replubic. No example to base them upon.

That was what was at stake in the cent.

If you ever get over the manpower shortage, do you think that you might do a run of Baghmarmes again?

The first time that I saw them was on the HI FAQ.

These would really make the ppl who have seen the collection wonder what I was up to.
