We're all well aware of Maxpedition's 10x4/12x5 water bottle holders - seem 'em on this forum a lot. I was wonder what else you guys use/used for bottle carriers? I mean... there was a time where Maxpedition didn't exist and I'm sure some of you had already been carrying water like with these holders. :D I see that Nalgene's selling a version of their own - although, just from the pictures it doesn't seem at all that robust.

Pictures would be great!

Thanks!

The Condor MA40 H2o bottle holder looks pretty impressive. You can find them for $16, but shipping is around $10 every place I've found them in stock. Still $26 shipped isn't too bad. According to the reviews, it's a little roomier than the Maxpedition and the pocket on the front is as well.

Check out this review from Critter/Steve from Wilderness Outfitters....

I've mentioned this before. You can get equal or better "bottle holders" than the Maxpedition at any major camera store, called a "lens case".

I have a paracord loop around the neck of my nalgene and then that gets looped onto a carabiner on my belt. Then I also nest my GSI cup and tie that to the loop.

It's not fancy and I don't get the extra storage of a bottle holder but it's cheap and it works for me.

I like the simplicity, light weight and effectiveness of your carry method, plus the fact that you'd probably be carrying paracord already.

Tad Gear Round Pouch- Tad Recon Pouches on the side & Tad RDDP1 Dump Pouch on front.
Fits any bottle I have including the 64 oz SS Kleen Kanteen bottle and 48oz Nalgene and will still latch shut and is about the same size as the MaxP 10x4.

There's over 1800 lens cases listed on eBay UK, and even a brief look confirms that they're perfectly suitable and are far less expensive than the 'traditional' bottle holders.

Considering that the lens cases are designed to protect contents of far greater value that a water bottle, I reckon they'd do well in this capacity.

Thanks for posting this, I'd never have thought of it, which is odd, as I put compact digital camera cases to a multitude of pouch and holster uses!

This Lowepro lens case, model Lens Case 2, is stated on their site as being for lenses or... a water bottle!
