Does anyone now of any good bowies in $150-200 price range other than cold steel?

Ps. cheaper is cool.

Have you been into the forums fixed blades for sale in the exchange?...you can get some real nice knives in there!

Have you looked at the Case bowies?

I think that about covers the realistic production options in your price range. There is also a newer TOPS knife which function wise looks nice, but lacks the classic lines. It's called the prather war bowie, but it only meets your price range at the introductory price, retail is about $100 more.

If you read my review on the bowie I purchased, and you want it I could part with it easily I don't like it. Bad Bowie, reviewed.

I am actually looking into getting a bowie for myself now too. At the price range you listed, I would recommend actually using a kit knife blade, and shopping very carefully. It would require more work from you, but it would fit your budget.

I haven't checked recently, but the Bark River Rogue should fall in your price range.

discontinued Buck 120s are easily found on auction site. They are not elegant; they do not reek of custom, but they are a great large workhorse knife. The same can be said for all their black phenolic handled fixed blade knives, varying mostly in size.

I have a blackjack model 14 that I love. It is like a Randall 14 only with better steel (A2 vs. O1), a convex grind, and bolts on the handle instead of just epoxy. It is probably stronger than the Randall, but very traditional. I sharpened the swedge on mine into a secondary edge.

I used it to kill this mojave, he made a nice hatband, and didn't taste half bad either!

Whats a kit knife blade? and is it something that you can make in an apartment?

A manufactured blank, with bevels, and somewhat of an edge on it, no makers mark. You do the handle work. (google "kit knife", you will see what I am talking about)

I would say yes, you could do it in an apartment.

Something I didn't mention before though; If you save up your money a real traditional bowie is not that expensive. Handmade in America, but like all good things you have to wait. There is a high demand for this brand.
