Other than the Spyderco Paramilitary 2 in s110v, my last purchases were the Emerson Vindicator and Sheepdog. After carrying them, I've gotten so comfortable with them that it's really hard to carry anything else than an Emerson. They are not as fancy as some of my other blades, but it's everything that makes an Emerson that just makes me drawn to carry them instead. It's my comfort item!

Now, I have the Vindicator, and Sheepdog, now to decide between a Rangemaster or a MiniCommander. :D

Can't go wrong either way. I think the rangemaster and sheepdog are the same knife.

Can't go wrong either way, I agree with Dr-fosg8. I'm closer and closer to my long awaited Roadhouse, that will definitely kick any other fancy blades of mine out of my right pocket :)

Actually, you CAN go wrong.

I had the mini commander and the scaled down ergos felt really cramped in my hand. I then held a regular Commander and knew that would have been the correct choice FOR ME.

OTOH, my seven feels perfect FOR ME, so if I had to pick, MY choice would be the sheepdog.

Point being, while they are all sweet, some knives are better for YOU than others, ya dig?

So if at all possible, do what ever you can to match your knife to your hand. Even if you (like most of us) don't have the ability to actually handle your choices before purchasing, at least put some serious consideration into the dimensions and shape of the handle first.

Just a friendly bit of less-thought-about advice from someone who learned the hard way.

Good luck, and take care.

I completely understand what Yo Mama is saying. Emerson knives seem to be an extension of Ernest Emerson's values and intent. Such tools, be they an Apple computer or vintage Porsche have an intrinsic appeal that transcends the item's specifications. Others may not understand, but personally I "get" Emersons and carry one almost daily. My vote would be for the Commander, or the Mini-Commander if your circumstances dictate a slightly smaller blade. The ergos are awesome, the first time I held one it was like coming back to your childhood home. I possess few things that are so comfortable in hand or spirit.

I like the way you put that perspective Mister, I think a lot of people "get" it, it is the man behind the product and what he stands for that gives these tools the special appeal; at least for me it is. Ernie is an example of what I respect in a person dedicated to make this world a little better place, and a true patriot.

I also agree with James in that you can go wrong, some models are more fitted to different hand configurations; I guess what I tried to say is that all Emersons I have handled possess excellent ergonomics, and I haven't handled all the models, so I can be wrong. It's all good at the end. I'm still waiting for my dream Roadhouse, almost there;)
Peace.

It's so true that owning my first Emerson ended a lot of my purchases from other knife companies. A lot of other companies are always changing models or coming out with crazy new designs or discontinuing great models. All their marketing tactics start to get to me after a while. EKI is a serious knife company with serious knives.

I tend to agree with what others have said here. I own many more expensive knives, but for some intangible reason the knife that is in my pocket nine times out of ten is an Emerson. Perhaps it is Ernest's values and beliefs. I can't say for sure, but all I know is that I am contemplating which new Emerson to buy as I type this.

I do have more Emersons than any other single brand, so I guess I drank the Kool-Aid too. LOL :D

Ernie Himself is the main reason I bought my first Emerson, after that it was the knives themselves, as if they weren't good, I would not have bought more.

I can definitely say that I have owned more Emersons that all the other brands I have purchased combined. I can definitely say that I have purchased more than 110 Emersons in my life so far not that I have 110 now, more like 42. EKI is my fave brand for the past 15+ years I have been happily carrying and using with ZT in 2nd place and no other after that. Yeah, I only like 2 production brands.

I just finished a few odd jobs around the house--many of which required cutting things (various materials)--and my super 7 handled every job effortlessly and still shaves hair off my arm. And even if it did not, touching it up is easy. I've had many knives pass through my hands, and as far as folders go, the only ones I've kept are Emersons. They cut like no other, feel perfect, and are aesthetically pleasing in their simplicity and utility. For fixed, I reach for one of my Busses; however, once the Gov't Mule is available again--I'm going to pick one up and put it to work. I suspect it will be a helluva performer. BTW, anyone have a Gov't Mule (fixed) and can report on it?

Keep'em sharp boys.

To me my Emerson knives are more than just knives. They are companions.

I own CRKs, Wilson Combats, Benchmades, Spydercos, ZTs, Lionsteels, Schrades, Beckers and others. All fine knives.

But no other maker can invoke the feelings I have like an Emerson can.

Part of it is Ernie, and the other part is to me they just feel different than any other knife does. I dig their construction, and the wave is so freakin' handy!

Well Emerson and CRK are pretty much it for me nowadays as far as folders go. I'll be getting my 5th Emerson Knife quite soon. Its in the mail, exciting. I like what Mr. Emerson stands for. Sure there are more fancy knives out there. I've had a lot of them in the past 6 years when the knife fever took over for me. I'll probably always have at least one Emerson with in range of my person.

I currently own 9 Emersons, and one Protech Emerson collab, the CQC-7 auto. I have also sold two Emersons previously, so I would have had 11.

I have never owned that many knives by any other company. I have 3 BM's, 2 Spydercos, 1 ZT (had 5, sold 4 to get more Emersons), 2 CRK's, 3 Bokers, 1 Stryder, a few Cold Steels, and 1 each of various other brands.

My point is that I've never owned as many pieces from any other knife company as I have Emersons. I always cary an Emerson, along with whatever my EDC choice for the day is. I guess I'm an Emerson guy.

I met and got a chance to speak with Ernie at Blade show last year, and I bought an Iron Dragon from him, and he signed the blade for me. He really was a very friendly polite, nice guy. He was also smiling a lot, and I think that says something about a person. He is the reason I became interested in Emerson knives in the first place, after seeing an interview on You Tube, I liked what he said, and what he seemed to stand for, so I bought my first Emerson shortly afterward.

Ernie brought me in, the knives kept me coming back. They just offer what I want in a knife, and are well made. I'm also not afraid to use my Emersons for things I would don't want to use my prettier knives for, but I think that's part of the point with Emersons. I have sold/traded Spydercos, and ZT's for more Emersons (I used to think Spydies had great ergo's until I discovered EKI's), so I guess other makers have lost me too. At least in the sense that when I have new knife funds, I always look at Emerson first.
