Other Frame locks?

Hi,

I'm looking for another Frame lock folder - Love G10, but want Steel / Ti liners on both sides & G10 Scales over top of the Liner..

I'm not really opposed to going with a Liner Lock, as long as the Liner is ultra thick, and can take a beating.

The closest I have seen to do it is the Hinderer xm18, or a Strider GB, but curious to know if there are any others for less $$
Kinda like a Spyderco Paramili but - frame lock

If there is such a beast, can you please post some Pics.

Thanks - TGIF

if you want scales over the liners, it is a liner lock, no?

I dont think so.

isnt the liner in a lienr lock scrwed to the frame? I dont think its cut of the frame like it is in a frame lock.

I could be :foot:

Not necessarily. If you do them like this Terzuola folder (bottom knife) http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=75440&d=1184634975 its simply a frame lock with overscales since you can still get your finger in behind the lock to help secure it.

yes, i understand where a frame lock could have an inlay or overlay.

perhaps i just dont understand what he wants.

brings up an interesting point though. at what point does an overlayed frame lock become a liner lock?

That or he could save a bundle and get him a JYD II with the same thickness lock on it. I still think that is the best value in a big liner lock available. When you compare that Kershaw JYDII to any competitor knives twice or even three or four times the price you have to ask, how can they do that?? Its silky smooth, has a great comfort to it during use and really stands out to me as a great folder if you want a liner lock. And for $55 and some change at most retailers who can argue with that?

Another great value is the Groove frame lock folder by Kershaw also.

Don't forget Greg Lightfoot: I have this one (Ti frame lock, CF scales, BG42 steel). The Full Contact folder:

Thanks for the info all, sorry for not being more clear in what I was looking for.
Thankfully Jill nailed it though, that's the kind of direction I am looking to go - so if any others are out there like that, we have a reference point.

STR - I am gonna have to do some looking at the Kershaws as well, but I am kind of stuck on the frame locks.

Concerning the GB - I know it is referred to as a liner lock, but it looks an awful lot like the same lock side as my SNG - but I have never held a GB, I might be missing something obvious.

Thanks again to all,

sp

Jos - that Lightfoot is incredible - BG42 is great! does he make it without the flipper?

Barrabas, check out his website. http://www.lightfootknives.com/

The models listed now don't include the Full Contact anymore, but he makes some other nice folders (without flipper). Actually I like this "flipper" design very much, as it acts as a finger guard as well.

It sounds to me that you want an Emerson, they have G-10 scales on top of Titanium liners and their knives are also much less than the Hinderer xm18 or the Strider GB.From what I've heard on this forum the knives are also extremely tough and the blade lockup is solid. www.emersonknives.com

There are all kinds of frame locks:
Mike Obenauf, Tom Mayo, Rick Hinderer, Greg Lightfoot and may other custom makers make frame locks. As far as productions go:
Kershaw, Spyderco, Benchmade, and Chris Reeves all make frame locks.

Benchmade 425 and 426 have Ti liner locks, but are about double the thickness of most liner locks. I love my 426.

Exactly what I was thinking. I carry mine all the time. It flips like an auto and that high flat grind is sweet.
