Other knives with H1?

I've been hearing great things about the "rust-proof" H1. Currently I know it's in Benchmade's River Rescue and Spyderco's Salt.
Is anyone else using it yet? Lots of styles would be nice; right now, I just got back from kayak camping :D so I'm wondering about some kind of fixed-blade utility or camp knife.

Sorry this isn't any help... I'm curious too.

Also, I'm wondering if custom makers can get their hands on this steel, or is it limited to "buy a 1/2 ton at a time" type of buyers?

I'd like to have a kitchen knife made for my sister, but hell, she needs Stellite/Talonite or Titanium... I doubt 440C would be stain-resistant enough.

H1 would be preferable to my pocketbook. ;)

Thanks.

Hi John,

AFAIK those two models are the only H1 knives currently on the market.

But you might want to take a look at Larry Ramey's titanium customs. His "Infield Knife" would probably be a great alternative to the BM and Spydie you mentioned - and it's very inexpensive too.

I'm pretty curious about the steel used in it. It's steel, but it has no carbon? I thought steel by definition has carbon. Also, how does it hold up compared to other, normal steels like 154CM or whatever?

I've been using the spyderco Salt1 for a few weeks now. The steel seems very similiar to SAK steel to me. Can be made very sharp, with adequate, but not superb, edge holding. The rust proof tag is legitimate. Mine has been left with salty water on it for a few days and apart from some surface discoloration which is easily wiped off, the steel is as shiny as new. I'm looking forward to the larger Pacific salt.

Ming's SAK analogy is probably best. It's probably a bit more rust resistant though. (Although I can't remember ever hearing of a rusted SAK...)

The edge will not last as long as 154CM which is a very wear resistant steel. Probably would come in in terms of wear resistance, right around 420HC.

definetly. SAKs are fairly rust proof but will spot if used around sea water. The Salt1 is yet to even think about rusting.

I am looking into getting some for two of my designs. I got the Salt and Pacific Salt and they are holding up! I have one design that I think Marines would like or anybody who does Water OPS.
