Other Nepali goods

This Saturday I went to a little outdoor market in the parking lot of a local mall. And I found a bag with a made in Nepal tag. It's monk style, with one big compartment, a sturdy button and a thick strap. The whole thing is made out of a heavy burlap rice sack with Hindi writing and Ohm on it. For $20 I took it home. I have yet to fill it with stuff. I've been thinking of putting nothing but old fashioned traditional gear in it. It was a nice find and I think it'll be fun to build a kit around it. Anybody else have other Nepali goods? Where did you find them?

The only non Khukuri Nepali item I have is the Topi that Yangdu gave me, however, I liked many of the fair trade items she included in the end of year clearance sales.

If suitable items were to come up on dotd's, such as a more 'manly' bag like that which you purchased, I think they would be of interest to a few here and the proceeds would go to a good cause.

I've seen a couple of Nepali bags, textiles, and so on come up on DotDs, but not often. I do know that there's a market for such things, though, since I've seen several websites devoted to them. I wonder if this is an opportunity that HI can benefit from.

The only other "Nepali goods" I've been able to purchase are from the Nepali food stand at our Farmer's Market, here in Austin. Alas, no pictures. <burp>
