Other options for sharpening recurves on the edge pro?

I see that Edge Pro has only four 1/2" stones available, 220, 320, 600, and 1,000. Instead of spending $64 plus shipping on them I'm thinking about buying some 1" inch blanks and cutting them in half beings it looks like 1/2" blanks aren't available. I was thinking about buying some of the 1/2" Congress stones to mount to these. How do the grit sizes of the congress moldmaster stones compare to the factory edge pro stones? The moldmasters seem to be the recommended ones to use, but they only go up to 600 grit. Would the super fine line of stones that congress has be ok to use if I went up to the 600 grit moldmaster and then used the 800, 1000, and 1200 grit super fine? How about after that. Anyone have any ideas on how to get a better polish after the 1200? My goal is to put a really nice edge on a custom recurve. I know I could put a nice edge on it with just the 1/2" edge pro stones, but what would be the fun in that?

In my experience, the 1X6 stones work quite well. Just turn them up (sideways) about 10 degrees, and sharpen very lightly. With experience, you "get the feel" of it.

Another option is to contact Tom at

www.jendeindustries.com

or Mark at

www.chefknivestogo.com

They sell a great deal of EP gear, and can answer most EP related questions.

good luck!:)
