This information may or may not be new to the user of the Balisong. In the closed position, the Balisong is similer in dia. and length to the Yawara (Japanese palm stick) aka 'kubotan'. Many outstanding pain compliance manuevers as well as 'come alongs' can be utilized in a level 1 threat condition. As a former Military law enforcement officer, now working in the private sector, my Balisong 'Batangas clipper' has save my life from a an inncident escalating.

Welcome to the forum, Larry. Can we call you Larry? :D:D

In case you've got a bit of martial arts training, the closed balisong can be used for joint locks, hitting pressure points, etc. Read Jeff Imada's "The Balisong Manual" and "The Advanced Balisong Manual" to pick up some of his ideas. The tang of a closed bali is an especially effective blunt weapon. I haven't tried to use these techniques on a live person, but if the situation arose and didn't call for lethal force, the closed bali is perfect for a "less-than-lethal" solution.

Welcome. Any contribution by someone with your experience is always welcome. You will find that many of us have martial arts training, and we have several resident "experts" as well in your related field. There are several other forums that would benefit from your experience as well.

I tried the old blunt tip techniques on myself and my voice is now about two octaves higher. :barf:
