I got a Wild Turkey, with the San Mai blade and ebony handles and I really like it, but I remember my first impressions I didn't think the value was quite there in the build and everything. Someone suggested I try a company that's more known for really good craftsmanship of traditionals like GEC

So is there a particular pattern that is similar to Kershaw's "Wild Turkey" that you guys could reccomend? I'm getting more interested in traditionals, and I'm really impressed with this knife and the quality of it. Still, it's not "perfect", and I want to see a "perfect" one in similar design.

The main three features of this knife I like are the long and slender clip point, the over-sized bolsters and the lock-back placed mid-way. I'd be fine with just a sipjoint as well, but don't really like the back-locks to be all the way on the end of the pommel

Can't help I'm afraid, but it's a timely question? ;)

Maybe a GEC model 72? Or a single-blade model 48 trapper? Neither are exact, but they're sort of in the "long, slender, single blade" ball park. Keep in mind, most of GEC's knives are 1095 carbon steel. They do make some stainless models, but they're a bit harder to track down. Their 1095 is great, but it's something to consider if you don't like carbon.

In a word, MOKI. They have impeccable f/f ;-)
In GEC'S line-up, the Ben Hogan would be a nice slim pattern.

Kenny, if the Wild Turkey is not "perfect" in your eyes I imagine you're entering a long, long quest here. I admit it doesn't have that homey feeling of a traditional but as far as fit and finish goes, I rank it very, very high (even considering the hit/miss factor implied in all production knives : maybe I was lucky with mine). The Case Copperlock could be right up your alley : the blade is slightly different but it's still a slim and light knife, very easy to carry. I had some misses with Case but my Copperlock is one of the best F&F I've ever seen. NS bolsters, bone scales with brass rivets... it's also true traditional style.

Haha I am shocked nobody has recommended the AlMar Eagle Ultralight? Or even the AlMar Falcon? That's exactly what came to mind when he described what he was looking for.

I've been very tempted by the Moki lockbacks, especially the medium size Kronos. From what I understand they make the Spire for AG Russell, the fit and finish are impeccable on that knife.

Moki is above most produktion knifes in fit and finish. Good material and the sutile personal feel of quality.

Thanks for the Moki and AlMar suggestions guys, I'm seeing some I really like. The AM1003BMT "Falcon Classic Talon Blade". It's not a clip point, but the spearpoint looks nice and it has a thumbstud.

herisson, yeah I was really impressed with the Kershaw but it still had a few little tiny issues that I'd like to find a folder without, to have a "perfectly made" piece.

Talk of lockback knives is standard fair in Traditional.
Talk of knives with thumb studs and pocket clips is not.

Please avoid discussing knives with thumb studs and pocket clips.

I agree with the suggestion for Moki. Mine is indeed "impeccable".
And the VG10 blade steel is sweet.

That's the one I was thinking of Frank
It's on my wish list...along with too many others :D Beautiful knife!

My apologies did not see subforum. I thought the Wild turkey came with thumb stud and pocket clip??? And wow did not know about this Moki brand! Sweet looking!

Edit: Ah I see there was a Traddie Wild Turkey as well that I was not aware of...learn something new, or two things, every day!
