Ouch! Question about spa treatment!

I just did something careless, which resulted in having a tiny chunk of the Ti being scraped away from the locking side slab. Part of my XHP Millie's blade hit the Ti when I flicked it open, and as you can imagine the hard steel did a number on the Ti.

The chuck missing isn't huge, but it's definitely noticeable. In addition the now exposed Ti is a LOT shinier than the rest of the knife, which I know can be fixed with a blast.

My question is, when sending your knife in for a refurb, do they reshape the scales at all? Or do they just reblast the scale no matter what the condition?

Whoops. Sucks when that happens, don't it?

Ti is VERY easy to reshape - use a 3M sanding pad and you can soften up the ding if it bothers you in terms of contour, sharp edges, etc. The sanding pad I refer to is just one of those sanding sponges you get at Home Depot or Ace Hardware.

I guess I have to add if you are actually USING the knife, the handle will get dinked, dinged and gouged on occassion, and as such the shiny should not offend at all. If you ask CRK they will, blast it, fix the gouge, whatever, as part of the blasting.

However, that's not free. I just sent two Sebs in and they did a marvelous job of sharping and cleaning/ lubing, but I passed on the blasting of the handles for $30.

If the knife is a user, my advice is suck it up, soften any sharp edges yourself and let the knife wear the scar proudly.

Now the part about gouging one handle open with the blade of another? You'll wear that scar proudly as well you keep that up ;)

They just re-blast them. The only time they will remove Ti is when they add a double thumb stud and they remove some Ti on the backside to make opening easier.

Bummer to hear about the sebbie damage...............I always look at it this way. Every ding, every scratch is an adventure you had with your sebenza. They all add character. Just like scars on your hand, everyone tells a story.

I bought a really nice knife (Bad form to mention it I suppose) definately in the same league with a CRK in every way so...
I "Dinged" the Ti and I was heart broken. Immediately my mind went to re-furb, re-finish...How could I have been so careless, So stupid.
I couldn't get it off my mind until I decided to give myself some time, after all I was using the knife - it was an EDC.
Fast forward, I don't even see it anymore and if I do, I laugh about being such a dumba$$ (Me, not you) it's a funny story now. wasn't when it happened.
A "Spa" visit may very well be in the cards but, I say wait awhile - more scars might take the ride by then:)

Disclaimer: Everything I just said is at 50. When I was younger - NO friggin' way, it was in the mail already:eek:

When you get old enough you realize that everything has a story behind it, I just leave things as they are so I can remember (good or bad).

Thanks for the input guys. I am going to just use it and forget about the ding. This knife has been a user for quite some time, it just hasn't sustained damage quite this bad since I've had it.

I'm just going to keep using the knife until a spa trip is necessary, then I"ll ask them to fix it up.

She kind of looks good with the scars on her. :)

Kinda like people. Over time we get a little beat up and don't necessarily look or even work the way we did when new, but if things are going the right way it all adds to a certain charm. Enjoy!

Can we get some pics? Always enjoying seeing dinged up knives for some reason

Yea I don't think they reshape. That sucks. I'd like to see pictures to see what happened.
