Good question Alan,
Clayton answered most of it for me, but here goes.....
Alot of what CAMILLUS does is make knives for other knife companies. This is called OEM contract work. Some of the companies that don't mind us talking about our relationship is REMINGTON and SEARS-CRAFTSMAN. These knives do not have the CAMILLUS name on them, but instead have the name of the respective brand. They handle all the marketing of these knives, not us [ie, you can't buy a REMINGTON marked knfe from CAMILLUS]. We also make ALOT of knives for the Boy Scouts, and these are marked with the CAMILLUS tang stamp and we help market them. This is product line that we are very proud to be a part of, and to tell the truth, a good scout knife is a very useful thing to have around.
Then there are several other companies that we make knives for that we respect their wishes for confidentiality. OEM work represents roughly half of what CAMILLUS does.
We also do alot of government contract work.
Then there are the various "brands" under the CAMILLUS banner, such as WESTERN CUTLERY, CUDA, and BK&T.
These are all made in our factory on the banks of Nine Mile Creek, in the village of CAMILLUS, NY. We are celebrating our 125th anniversary this year as the oldest continuous knife maker in the US.
Thanks for the interest!
