No, you've not read this thread before! :D Uncle Andi has been at it again, sending out quality Otter knives! This just landed here early evening, so just a quick photo for now, but as you can see it's a lovely sweeping wharncliffe in high-carbon Solingen steel. There's a half-stop and the pull is about the same as the Sheffield-made Arthur Wright lambsfoot I got earlier in the week. It's a nice little working pattern and very well-made. Only had it in my hands a few minutes, but it'll be getting plenty of pocket-carry, and hopefully plenty of use. Thanks a lot Andi for my first Otter knife, which I couldn't be more pleased with :)

Jack

Jack, I´m glad you like it. It´s a nice working knife.

I need to thank you too.

I got three knives of Jack. One is a Richards Scout knives and a stainless penknife next to a edgeless small butter knife. All three knives are beautiful. They are made in Sheffield, England. I only had one Sheffield made knife until now. And I always wanted some knives more of this great historic place of knifemaking.

I took several pics of them this afternoon. I wanted to open a thread, but Jack was a little faster :)

All tools opened :)

The back of the two knives... The penknife has a filework on the back.

The Richards is old, but close to perfect fitting of the blade and hardly used in general.

EDIT:

I just took a pic of the butter knife

The handle seems to be something natural... Maybe it´s bone

Jack, thank you very much for this trade :)

:D ;)

Glad you like your knives Andi, and thanks a lot for posting the pics, it's good to see them in your hand :)

I should say that the butter knife is a wee tiny thing for Andi's nephew :)

I'm looking forward to using my Otter

Jack, it´s a great setup I got from Good Ol' England. I really like these knives.
The little fixed blade knife is going to my nephew, when he reached the age - next to several other blades. With a story how I got it :)

Not to think I´m related anyhow to Otter Knives - Bavaria and Nordrhein-Westfalen is far away from each other ;) I just like their knives and they are hard to get outside of Germany.

@R-D: LOL ... Andi strikes again... ;)

Yes, I think the only Otter knife I ever saw before is the one with the anchor on it. It's surprising they don't export more, but sometimes these old companies have anachronisms. I'm certainly very impressed with the quality Andi, the weber-messer has a very nice feel to it. I think it'll be a knife I carry a lot :)

Lovely knives. I found myself perving at the Otter (:?) in the other thread earlier this week.

Great idea and way to share our cutlery heritage with each other this way.
I hope they are well enjoyed.

Good on you sirs.

Thanks Scruff. I like the Otter, it sort of feels kind of familiar in the hand. I also like the idea of the exchange, and I know this is a knife I'll always treasure :) Incidentally, the pull on the Otter is about the same for the Sheffield knives, in fact I think there are a lot of similarities, though I reckon they have retained their heritage (and their QC) better in Solingen :)

It had always been my idea to send Andy all the other Sheffield knives I managed to find on my recent Otley Run, other than whatever the winner chose. I'd hoped to get more and 'stitch him up' (he's so generous it's hard to get one over on him)! :D But I'm glad he's happy with the ones I sent :) Hope you enjoy them Andi :)

Jack, the knife with the anchor is the Otter Ankermesser (Anchorknife) - it is made by Otter and Löwenmesser. Formaly it was made other cutleries in Germany Lütters & Cie. as far as I can remember and several others. Which I don´t know exactely. I made a post about it, some months/years ago http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...er-another-typical-German-pattern-(pic-heavy)

Thanks Andi, I'll have a look at that in a minute

(Nice interesting post Andi. I can see I'll have to send you some snuff ;) I think Wilsons of Sheffield, very close to where I grew up, is the oldest snuff works in the world :) )

Was hoping to take some pics outside today, but the weather is rotten :( Here's some more kitchen table pics for now.
