Our grandson Darius just returned home for a visit from Marine Corps boot camp.We adopted his mother as a pregnant teenager. She came to us from a remote village on the Yukon. She has limitations due to her mothers alcohol and drug abuse before and after birth. I saw Darius's potential at a early age. He is a natural leader and problem solver. He was my constant companion and like my son. When he was ten they moved out of our home. My wife taught our daughter how be a mother and hold a job. He passed his mother up when he was fifteen. Although we would see him almost every day my concern for his future grew. He had a hard time with schedules and could not keep a job. He eventually graduated from High School and took a semester of college.
He drifted for two years and finally fulfilled his life long dream of becoming a Marine.
What a difference! The structure and discipline has made him into a fine young man.

Congratulations to you and your wife making a difference! My son's best friend spent more time at our house than his own because of problems there. He struggled with academics but we got him graduated. That fall he enlisted in the Marine Corps. He told me he did it because he wanted to be like me. He did two tours in Iraq and is out now with a great job and two sons. I could not be prouder!

Ooooh Friggin Rah! :)

Congrats! Been there, done that with one of my Sons. The other one; now, that's a different story.
