I learned yesterday that the old Scottish Highlander I have mentioned from time to time on the forum left his body Feb. 12. I was catching up on guys I'd not heard from for awhile and got the message from his widow.

He was a big, tough guy who might have made a poster boy for the Highlanders when he was young but leukemia and other ills were too much for him. We emailed, talked on the phone and he was one of the good guys and one I considered a friend. Our khukuris helped him relive what I'd guess was the most exciting time of his life -- being a Highlander and serving with Gorkhas in far away places. I'm glad we were able to do that.

I wish you well, Jim, on your journey through the Bardo.

:(

Sorry to hear that Uncle Bill. Sounds like he was an interesting fellow--someone I would have loved to sit and share a few pints with while hearing about those travels.

May he rest in peace, and blessings for his journey from me as well.

cattle die, kinsman die,
you will also.
But the thing that lives on
are good deeds and memories.

Sorry to hear of his passing. A man is never truly gone if he lives in the memories of his friends.

Certainly He has my condolences.A pipe tune I thought of goes like this Words: ...It will be said at first that you will remember the good times, the Highland Games, the tunes you played together. So remember without sadness and look forward to the day you'll meet them again when you get the call to the Gathering.......

Good stuff and thanks. I hate losing pals. Lost my best friend about 10 years ago. He was only 62. Hemochromotosis got him. I think I spelled that right. The family asked me to speak at his funeral. I tried but coudn't do it -- just as I had predicted.

All part of the deal.

You know a man by the company he keeps. I am sure we lost one of the good ones.
