I most certainly agree our country isn't the same. Sadly it may not ever be like it was before. I remember the freedoms I had as a young boy and even as a teen. We carried our rifles and shotguns through neighborhoods to the fields an woods. No-one ever stopped us and asked what we were doing, going,if the guns were loaded.
How come we had such big knives etc.
No-one freaked out when we went back through the neighborhood with dead rabbits and/or squirrels and/or game birds.
I remember meeting up with a family that was traveling across country about 1945. The man and his wife and two kids were driving a Ford 60 V8 and pulling a house trailer. We were in a big 1940 Buick Limited. We traveled with Them for several days, shared meals, good times and hard if a vehicle broke down. The old man pushed the litte Ford 60 and the housetrailer over one of the passes in the Rockies. The man couldn't hardly believe that old Buick had that much power. It is a much longer story than that, but it used to be where there were no strangers and people would help one another out. Kids could play with one another wthout the thought of killing someone.
I remember helping out (with some other kids sometimes) those older people that couldn't help themselves. Mowing lawns and cutting weeds etc. for nothing more than a glass of water and the most beautiful eyes in the world giving you thanks. Some people will never know what that feels like.
The words "It is better to gve than to receive" meant something back then. I wonder sometimes if they still do and then realize that ... Yes. at least among most of the people I know, even most of the younger ones. Perhaps, just perhaps there is enough nucleus that maybe I am wrong and things can get back to some semblance of sanity.
Thanks for listening.

The civilized man sleeps behind locked doors in the city while the naked savage sleeps (with a knife) in a open hut in the jungle.
