I went for a 3 hour hike on the local nature trail today. I carried some small knives with me, just to see how they compared as hiking blades.

It was a glorious day to be out. About 74F, and sunny.

NICE! It's about 64deg F and raining here.... :thumbdn:. What pack are you using and which knife was the best?

Once I got to the campsite, I took a short lunch break, and then got out the knives.

Here is a spine shot.....because somebody always wants to see one.

I first did some cutting with the Rijback. This a rugged framelock. It has a G10 cover over the lock side. It looks better that way, but honestly, this knife is the most uncomfortable one of the bunch to use. Too many sharp edges on the handle. It cuts well, now that I convexed the thick S30V blade.

The ZT301 is much more comfortable to use. Both of these knives are a bit heavy in the pocket. Naturally, the ZT cuts fine, too.

The little ESEE-3 and HEST are both easier on the hands than the folders.

The HEST is good for prying and digging out fatlighter.

I found this dead palm tree. This is a gold mine for tender.

I found myself using the HEST and the ESSE the most. My Rat Trap is my EDC, so I already know that it can cut as well as the fixed blades. But I wouldn't try digging out fatlighter with it. It was a great day in the woods. I'm looking forward to getting that ESEE-3 F folder. But I can't complain. The little ESEE-3 rides under my vest and I hardly know I'm carrying it. Back home down the trail.

No pack today, just my Maxpedition Water bottle carrier with the HEST attached and Safari vest. I tend to pack like Captain Kangaroo. Lots of pockets. But I forgot my cell phone. Left it home on the charger, so nobody disturbed my "church" today. :D

+1! Why sit in a church and chat about God when you can go outside, do some hiking and enjoy what God/or what ever created this world....
