Been promising these photos for a few days...I need to get one of those fancy cameras like WW that send them to my computer wirelessly .

Went out in our "back yard" - which is pretty swampy 'cause it's bordered by a tidal estuary - and had a little fun with my youngest and a couple friends. And, of course, a Becker.

Tools (yes, the hat IS a tool):

Cheapie saw from HF. Worked OK. Machax sheath by trailbum. Great sheath!

There's already a 7/8's completed tree fort back there, but the girls thought it would be fun to make a natural shelter. We trolled the woods for branches to weave into this one almost horizontal trunk back there. Now that the leaves are down I can see a LOT of trees came down last winter. It looks so open now, but in the summer you can't see more than about 30 feet for all the vegetation.

Starting to get the makings of the "rafters":

Here you can CLEARLY see the roof structure.....NOT! Trust me, it's there. Just hard to get a decent photo of.

We have a TON of Japanese Knotweed (*damned invasive plants!) That the Machax was mowing down. Used this for the "roofing".

Some shots looking up....it turned out a lot cooler than the pics show, IMO. Need to work on my photo skills, I guess. Or get better with photoshop ;). Maybe I just need a super fancy camera....that'll make me a better photographer, right?

You can see the neighbor's yard and the pond in this one:

Thanks again to trailbum for the sheath, and JD for doing the hats. My ugly mug:

Fun afternoon outside with the kids. Plus a lot of hacking and slashing with the Machax. Threw my Fiskars a couple times, too....until I missed and it went (hollow) haft first into the ground and packed itself with mud. Gotta set up a target with a dry landing area for when I miss....which is most of the time. Thanks for looking.

Looks like you all had a fun time making that, the girls look happy in the outdoors. Nice selfie , I'd throw one of mine up but I'd probably scare everyone away. :)

Looks like a fun time with the kids man. Any day outside is a good day.

Brings back a lot of memories. I spend hours everyday making forts in the woods with my friends when I was a kid. I too hate invasive plants. They are a pain but awfully fun to cut down :D

Looks like a great time with the kiddo's!
Machax swingin', Fiskars tossin'....good stuff!
Thanks for the pics GSOM!

Hey GSOM, would it lessen your disdain any to know that Japanese Knotweed is edible? I haven't tried it yet, myself, but apparently it has some health benefits.

Doc
I've tried it...you have to eat it in the spring when it's young and just shooting up. And the dried stems are kinda cool, too....almost like bamboo but MUCH more fragile. Still an invasive, and the blossoms STINK, if you ask me. If only I could eat it and that would stop it....no such luck, that stuff is like the cockroach of the plant world.

Looks like a great time with the kiddo's!

You are welcome! And congratz on your addition. How's his big sister handling it? My older one talked so much to my little one while she was in momma's belly that when the little one was born, that was the one sound she would pay attention to, even in the first few days....her sister's voice!

Thanks, Dubz and NathanJ. 'Twas indeed fun. My little one wanted to get her 11 out (she got at the Gathering, thank you KaBar!) but I wasn't sure how knife savvy her friends were....not that she always pays attention herself!

That looked like an awesome time with the kiddos. Tree forts are THE best; I'm sure you scored major brownie points with her friends for being the "cool dad" lol. Thanks for the pics.

while going about doing our usual outdoor stuffs, its great to spend time with the kids and do something for them for a change. thanks for sharing and wish that you will continue doing this on a regular basis.
