Been promising these photos for a few days...I need to get one of those fancy cameras like WW that send them to my computer wirelessly
.
Went out in our "back yard" - which is pretty swampy 'cause it's bordered by a tidal estuary - and had a little fun with my youngest and a couple friends. And, of course, a Becker.
Tools (yes, the hat IS a tool):
Cheapie saw from HF. Worked OK. Machax sheath by trailbum. Great sheath!
There's already a 7/8's completed tree fort back there, but the girls thought it would be fun to make a natural shelter. We trolled the woods for branches to weave into this one almost horizontal trunk back there. Now that the leaves are down I can see a LOT of trees came down last winter. It looks so open now, but in the summer you can't see more than about 30 feet for all the vegetation.
Starting to get the makings of the "rafters":
Strength testing:
Here you can CLEARLY see the roof structure.....NOT! Trust me, it's there. Just hard to get a decent photo of.
We have a TON of Japanese Knotweed (*damned invasive plants!) That the Machax was mowing down. Used this for the "roofing".
Some shots looking up....it turned out a lot cooler than the pics show, IMO. Need to work on my photo skills, I guess. Or get better with photoshop
. Maybe I just need a super fancy camera....that'll make me a better photographer, right?
And a few looking down from the existing fort:
You can see the neighbor's yard and the pond in this one:
Thanks again to trailbum for the sheath, and JD for doing the hats. My ugly mug:
Fun afternoon outside with the kids. Plus a lot of hacking and slashing with the Machax. Threw my Fiskars a couple times, too....until I missed and it went (hollow) haft first into the ground and packed itself with mud. Gotta set up a target with a dry landing area for when I miss....which is most of the time. Thanks for looking.
