Out of curiosity what oil do you use

I'll use olive oil if it's ever going to be used for food prep.
Alot of folks preffer mineral oil for high carbon blades.

CLP for my guns and knives. If its going to touch food i clean with soap and water first.

I use the cheap silicon spray from the hardware store for my knives. Kitchen knives I don't oil

When I bring an axe in from the cold I let it get to room temp, then wipe off any moisture. If sap coated I wipe with rubbing alcohol to clean the head. Then I'll lift the lid and put the axe head into the crapper bowel and blast it with WD-40. The wipe off excess with T-paper, flush.

Regarding ballistol--yeah, it is a little pricey, but really protects well. I use it on my d2 and 1095 folders... and the rest of my stainless ones occasionally... but, more significantly, I coat my katanas with it--never a sign of rust or decay of any sort. My GEC #42 (1095) did develop a nice patina, but that is because I wipe the blade clean and cut apples, pears, etc... with it. After I'm done a wash the blade with a little dish soap, dry it, and apply the ballisol. The patina stays, lightens a little, but that is it. I like to drip a little in the pivots/ moving parts of my folders as well. Over time some dust will accumulate, but a quick cleaning will get rid of that.

I use mineral oil exclusively for food prep knives and tuf-glide for everything else

I read somewhere that someone uses Chapstick on their blades if they might use them for food prep. Waterproofs and protects from rust etc. ???? Sounds reasonable, except it may be hard to get into pivot points. I use an old gun oil rag to wipe mine down before storing them for any length of time. Rem oil or Hoppes probably on the rag.

Marine Tuf-Coat for all knives except kitchen use. Those never get oiled, just dried after washing. My EDC or hunting knives get used occasionally for cutting up food in the field, but I guess I'm tuffer than the Tuf-Coat cuz it's never had an effects that I seen, and I've been using the stuff for about 35 years.
