What Year did Buck begin out sourcing to foreign countries. I always thought it started in 2005 and was in full swing in 2006. The reason I ask is that I am a big fan of Buck filet knives and have a substantial collection. With the article in the BCCI news letter detailing the US made filet knives, I began to look at the knives I have. I found a black folding filet knife called the fish locker. As I looked it over I noticed it was made in Taiwan, I looked at the date code on the knife and it was the 2002 mark. 2002 being quite a bit different than the 2005 I was a custom to believing. The knife was bought in the mind set that it was the predecessor to the Tru blue. I'm very disappointed...

The info I found says Buck started offshore production in the early 2000's and started bringing back some production in 2003 so they must have started offshore production in 2001 or maybe 2002?

I just pulled the 2002 catalog and the fish locker doesn't it say made in Taiwan. I think it should say it in the catalog.

This is an area of much confusion for me - are the pocketknives that are made in China (371, etc.) made in Red China or in Taiwan/Formosa?

I have a Year 2000 marked 309 that was assembled in Mexico - I guess that is partial outsourcing.

It makes a difference; Red China is an enemy, countries like Taiwan and South Korea are allies - I will still buy products made by Allies.
