The thread about walking sticks reminded me of mine so I decided to take it out today.
I made it last year, or maybe even the year before, but never use it so decided to dust it off and take it out today.

There were lots of tasty Salal berries everywhere, these are Maisy's favourite, I think she's part Bear !

I found a nice place to stop so took this pic of myself to show the height of my stick before settling down to drink my tea !

Maisy found a stick of her own ! Check out how dry the grass is, no wonder there is a massive fire ban !!!

Enough of the heat the dogs needed to cool off again, this spot will do the trick !

So verdict on the stick: To be honest I found myself wishing I didn't have the stick a little more than I was glad I did have it. They can be handy at times but I'd rather manage without and have both hands free !

I was considering making a stick a few times, but always thought that I would prefer both hands free as well.

Great pics, too.

I know people who swear by them--and those who swear at them...

I never got in the habit of using one-but I can see where they would be VERY handy at certain times.

Great photos

Great pics as always bro. The mountainside here is so treacherous I'd never head out without my walking stick.

That view from your third picture looks familiar. Gotta be somewhere on the South Island will the Oak and Arbutus together..

Nice stick, Pit.
I have a stick I made and did some carvings on, but don't use it much either.
Generally when out in the bush, my pack is lighter and a stick is not needed for balance.
When I go on a multi day hiking trip with a 40lb pack, I use trekking poles for balance and to help with sure footing.

Thought I'd show ya this pic from today, this is the dogs reaction when I spend too long taking pics !
