Man the weather is lousy today, perfect for testing fire kits, so off I went.
As I stood at the spot below another man came down the trail, as he saw the view he said " Wow it's nice down here eh !" I agreed with him and asked if he'd been here before to which he replied " Yeah but quite a while ago, my dog got chased off by a Cougar and it took me four or five hours to find him !".
I know there is a healthy cougar population on the Island but when ya hear something like that it brings it home to you !!! I left the man and checked how quickly I could draw my knife if required, LOL !!!!

To get a fire on a day as wet and rainy as this I was going to need some fatwood, this was where the Roach Belly came in (If it had been any darker in the wood I'd have needed a flashlight !)"....

Today I thought I'd see if a ferro rod would light an alcohol wipe, I know the gel ignites very well !

This failed big time, checking the packet I then realised that the wipe also contained water, guess that didn't help ! Good job I also carry other means to get fire....

Using a little rubber inner tube I soon had a healthy fire...

After drinking my tea I headed back. On the return trail I came across this tree, someone had been busy eh !!!

Good stuff pitdog. One thing I noticed also is that alcohol will often burn with an invisible flame so don't always assume that it isn't lit. Handsantizer seems to be so popular now that I have little troubles finding it stowed away and every nook and cranny I look. Never had problems with the hand sanitizer yet.

Yeah I should have added that the wipes did ignite when I used a Bic !

Wonderful pictures thanks. I really enjoy this kind of post where I get to see a bit of the countryside that you guys wander around in.

I use Kendall brand alcohol prep pads that I took from the hospital a while back. They take a spark like a pro

I love the pic with Maisy in it, looks like she is on guard.
