Didn't take the dogs too far today as I'm back at work on a block of long nights tonight !:(

As soon as I started the hike I came across one of the largest wood ant nests I've ever seen, it must have been 5' x 4' and around 3' high !

Even though a short hike there were still some nice views to be had.

Little lizards were scurrying around everywhere, I think that's what Snicker was looking for in this pic !

I was looking up as I hiked admiring the colours of the leaves as they changed for the fall.

It was as I was looking up that I noticed something in this tree.

A fine example of Laetiporus or Chicken of the woods as it is known. The mushroom can be prepared in most ways that one can prepare chicken meat. It can also be used as a substitute for chicken in a vegetarian diet. Additionally, it can be frozen for long periods of time and retain its edibility.

My old girl was panting so it was time to head back !

Thanks for the pics, Pit!

The dogs are looking healthy and happy - leaves are starting to turn for you - not quite there yet here in the cornfields.

Hang in there on the night shift.

I f you had a Cold Steel Bushman , that mushroom could have been harvested. Ive been looking for Chicken of the Woods but no luck yet.

What, you didn't take any laetiporus home? It did look a tad high up there. You could use your branch/paracord handle idea with a long pole to harvest over your head. It works but you end up playing catch and gathering up bits.
