Hi, I see TiNi coatings that look almost like a satin finish, I see a black coating, and the Kershaw website says it's a "black teflon" coating but it looks like a satin finish. What gives? Also, is the 3/16" thickness OK for such a chopper? Has anybody broken one of these being they are D2? I'm looking for a camp & yard tool to replace my aging khukri and i'm interested in the value and features the Outcast has. I really dig it comes with a kydex sheath as well.
Thanks!
Kevin

I bought my Outcast when they first came out. I have had no
trouble with it at all. I don't use it for chopping down redwoods
I use it around my small ranch and it works well. Yes the coating
is black not satin.

It can be used and abused, trust me. The D2 was hardened correctly for the use. You can baton it through about anything. You wont kill it, trust me.

j_curd, did you regrind the edge on yours? a few months ago i reground one that was a little thick for the owner and thinned the edge considerably. yours looks like its not as bad as the one i redone. it didnt chop too bad before but its a wicked chopper now. i tried it on some hard red oak and it was like chopping soft pine.

thanks for the responses and the pic, great looking user there, how a knife ought to look.
