I've been eyeing the Impulse on various sites recently and been impressed with what I have seen and heard from users. None of that could have prepared me for what I saw at the cutlery store today. I have owned top quality production knives and many customs/semi-customs including several Sebenzas, and still the Impulse (and Magna actually) just totally blew my mind. I'd seen them in the case before, but I got to handle one today. The fit, finish, and overall quality of the Impulse was incredible to me, and not just at this price point. I especially liked the clip design as it provides for very deep carry and a very low profile overall. The pictures I've seen on the internet just don't do it justice. I almost broke down right there and paid the $50 mall price for it but was quickly brought back down by my wife who reminded me the internet dealers have it for $35.
Anyway, I just had to vent my excitement over today's find. I'd say the Impulse is the most underrated folder out there right now.

I was lucky enough to purchase a used Impulse in excellent shape from a forumite -- thanks, Shawn. It is the primary reason I purchased an Arclite and an EDC. (Can't find the little EDC anywhere. Can't believe it!) About 5 seconds of holding the Impulse and looking at it convinced me that Darrel Ralph really knows what he is doing.

I have fibromyalgia. Some sufferers -- and of course I'm one -- undergo changes to the skin on the palm and fingers. Half the time, I look like I just climbed out of water after a 30 minute dunk. Also, my inner hands have virtually completely stopped sweating. The skin is very slick, though wrinkled looking. Anyhow, the point is that the pad of my right thumb doesn't do well in most Spyderco holes -- thankfully, it does fine with the Wegner -- or the Impulse. I have to use the second hole to feel sure I'll succeed in opening the blade. Trouble is, every thumb stud and Spyderco hole knife I own, has them located where the first Impulse hole is. So, I don't carry it much. But, I'm convinced that it is a fine knife, and an excellent bargain. I need to touch up part of the blade, but it is obvious that the Sandvik 12C-27 takes a real scary edge!

Amen to that!! It's hard to find fault with the Impulse . A great design that will stand the test of time.

It was a very under rated knife. As a matter of fact most offerings from Outdoor edge are. The Magna was also a great knife in its price range.
