Michael and eric- looking through a bunch of old outdoor life books and came across this add. thought the date might help with the mystery. I'll keep looking to see if I find anymore. Funny how in a lot of the schrade ad's for knives how the seller or advertising company fails to mention the name of the knife maker. - Joel

Nice research find, Joel! A firm piece of the puzzle!

Here we are again in september 1967 not refered to as shakari and look at the price difference. here you can see the sheath.

then one more in october 1972 refered to as 165ot, and take a look at the 41ot compared to the pic on collectors of schrades r us its a lot different?

Great stories/pictures Joel. I looked at my 41OT which is absolutely identical to your picture. It is easy to get confused with the Craftsman SS which is similar but with additional spacers to butt end near pommel and has different cross guard and is sans Old Timer shield. Hoo Roo

I love it when you guys do research! There is no way that one single person can cover all of the bases, buy and read all of the period magazines and catalogs. Together, we are finding answers to many previously unanswered questions about Schrade knives!

These dated ads confirm my theory that the serial numbers were production serials and not specific to this SFO issue of 165s. And with the actual customer name, it is even possible that we might identify the specific order and the quantity ordered!

It is a bit disappointing that the knives had nothing to do with that Stiffy Push-pole girl,

but only mildly so! I'll see if I can rummage thru my scattered research on this one and post a brief paper on the issue, now complete with Joel's information! Oh, and with Eric's pictures with his and Joel's permission.

From Wikipidia... "Shikari"
the Urdu/Hindi word for hunter, from shikar 'hunt' (compare with sicarius, Latin for "assassin"), also used in other languages.

Awesome research Joel! That's a BIG piece of the puzzle, Thanks!
Michael, you don't ever have to ask permission to use my pics, take what you need:thumbup::D

..That Yukon Hunter knife advert is interesting I was not aware that one blade is Stainless Steel and the other High Carbon Steel..how clever is that...you see they describe handle as 'Stagalon'.I'm going to check my folding hunters now to see if I've got one and what tang stamps they baer..I mean bear.
