I was in KMart and they have a lot of "outdoor life" knives that look an awful lot like schrades. They are pretty cheap, but not really cheap cheap. I was wondering if they were using schrade materials and\or designs and whether they were any good. I quickly searched outdoor life here, but didn't get anywhere.

I don't need another sharpfinger, but they had an outdoor life version identical to it for 19.95. :)

I'm not familiar with them myself, but a lot of non-knife company names are simply regular knife companies' knives contracted out. Gun companies do this a lot -- Smith & Wesson doesn't make knives, someone else does with the S&W name on them.

If they look like Schrades, they probably are Schrades. The problem is, Schrade went out of business. So they're either going to sell out eventually, or ... the people who bought the Schrade name and are now manufacturing Schrade-labelled knives in China are making them.

Outdoor Life is a sub-brand of United Cutlery, its on their website. As far as quality goes.... don't know. I kinda stay away from UC stuff. If you want another Schrade 152OT, buy the real thing off ebay. Plenty still available, prices still reasonable. A real Schrade won't disapoint you for the money spent, on the other hand, a UC clone might leave you wishing you had your 20$ back.

i bought a schrade tanto folder (new $35) for $10 at a walmart like place and for the money its really not a bad little knife, real smooth, shined the blade up real good with flitz. its alot of fun to fool around with for the money...p
