Ok..I have no pics of this pack up yet, but I took it to McKinney Falls when I did my day hike. I figured I would let you know how it fared.

It is an Outdoor Products fanny pack from Wal-Mart. I think it ran about $15. I believe siguy has one as well and he might be able to verify that. I bought it on the cheap for a test run. Here's what I found.

Positives:
Holds alot of gear. I packed my full FAK, some food, fishing kit, knives, compass, the whole nine inside and still had room for more.

Dual water bottle pouches with nalgene-esque bottles.

Interior pocket to hold small things.

Easy access to everything.

Plenty of room on the belt for machete and other pouches as needed.

Negatives:
Rides funny when worn as a fanny pack, as all fanny packs do, but is uncomfortable when full and worn as a butt/lumbar pack.

You have to be careful opening the main pocket or you lose all your gear everywhere.

I found that I had to stop and hunt for things inside as there is no way to organize within the pouch itself.

The elastic straps for the water bottles broke after abotu 5 minutes of use.

The belt is too narrow to be comfortable for long.

Not very waterproof/resistant.

I found it to be just basically what I expected for a discount pack. I was not terribly impressed with it, but was not tempted to run it back and return it either. I would suggest it as a great place for oyunger folks to start out and get used to packing gear. I would not suggest it or use it for extended hiking unless it only held an FAK and other minor gear. I found that the load I put in it was just more than I could pack with it comfortably. Hope this helps y'all.

dougo,
i think i do have the same pack.

as for things falling out, i agree, you have to watch it. mine has little bits of mesh sewn into the corners to try to keep stuff in the pouch, but they don't do too much, especially with a really full pack.

i fit a fair amount of gear in mine, and like that i can put stuff on the belt too.

i took it on a few ~3 mile hikes last week to further test it, and find that as long as you don't load it up too much, it is pretty comfortable. i like that it is low, keeping my back uncovered and cool. i could only fit a few essentials into it to keep it at a comfortable weight, so supplemented it with a small pack to carry a towel and a couple of extra supplies when i walked over to the river.

i like the external pockets, but i wish they were just a tiny bit bigger. they handle standard 20 oz water bottles well, as well as the 1/2 litre bottles it comes with. it fits my 850 ml bottle well, but the 1L nalgene is a tad too big. shame...but not really a deal breaker for the $10 it cost me...

in my opinion, good for dayhikes and short trips, or good to carry essentials in when used with another pack. not good to try to load up for longer trips at all...

oh and i also wore it while riding my bike the other night, it worked fair enough but i think i will stick with my backpack.

Sig...I also have some 1L bottles I picked up from Eddie Bauer and they fit well. I liked using them much better. The small ones will probably just become dry cans now. Oh...and the carabiner is a nice place to hang the 550 and/or my emergency whistle.

And here's mine:

The 1L is taller and actually about the same diameter. I found them at Target. They are marketed as 'first aid in a bottle' and 'survival in a bottle.' They come with a couple of things like the 5-in-1 safety whistles, multi-tool knives, etc. They ran about $12/ea. Well worth it and I gave the gear to my 10 yr. old bro Cabelas also has some in store, I do not know about online. Similar to this design http://www.survival-supply.com/images/4970.jpg

Yea...I did put alot in there, I wanted to see what the max load was.
