Got some time on the water to myself this last week. mostly lookin' for pickerel (walleye to those south of the border) and fly fishing for whitefish.
here are some pics.
Pickerel here are limited to 4 a day, and 4 in posession. whitefish have no catch limit.
the stringer of pickerel were all over 16 inches and all smaller than 20. there are strict rules both written and understood on this matter here. i love me some pickerel, whitefish is great too usualy smoke it. nice stuff. fire away with questions i'm in a rush so no details right now. i have a few new wildlife shots too, and a few reviews i'll post later in the week (breeden bushcrafter, bruce culberson necker and belt knife and snugpak rocket and bugjackets so stay tuned!)

And the biggest of the week, a 29incher my buddy caught in 4 feet of water. every fish on the stringer was caught in the same spot. all those fish (plus the bigger ones we released in two hours.) 11 pickerel over 16 inches bettween 6am and 8am in less than five feet of water...what a thing of beauty. fire away with questions.

Walleye are the best eating fish Ive had. That whitefish looks like an overgrown creek chub.

Nice haul! Is that a 15 horse Merc? I have one that looks just like it.

Yes it is. we've always found that there's no need for much more power than that unless you're gonna be on the great lakes or something of the sort. and Merc's have always been super reliable.

Looks great - fly-in fishing? Just going off the 'outpost' sign. My wife and I like to go up to Wawa for fly-in fishing when we can afford the cost and time. What gear are you using for the whitefish? Are you floating the fly's? I'm interested in your whitefish technique.

it's not a fly-in outpost actually. but there is an hour long boat ride up river and lake to the outpost from the landing. it's near foleyet ontario. just over an hour west of timmins.
i'm not sure where you're getting to in wawa but i'm gonna send you a private message with some info.
as for the whitefish, i was floating a fly. the whitefish are at the surface feeding on shad flies (may flies) in the spring. unlike pickerel which have many rules around them (size, quantity and so forth) whitefish have no catch or posession limit and they're great eating!
all my trapper buddies who net them (also legal for whitefish as i understand it) and use them as bait.

Hi,

Those are some nice 'Eyes! Fine size for eating. I haven't had the time to go fishing yet. I need to get some fish to smoke. I don't have whitefish, but I got bullheads and small carp I can catch for the smoker.

The backgrounds in your photos are nice. I need to get up north soon.
