There is a thread going on in Gadgets and Gear discussing canoes and kayaks. Got me wondering if there would be any interest in an outdoors forum dealing with hunting, fishing, camping, boating etc. The Wilderness and Outdoor Skills Forum is great for what it is, but I think there's room for something with a little broader scope.

See if you can get discussions going on hunting, fishing, camping, boating etc. and eventually we can see how much interest there would be in splitting the forum by counting how many threads there are in that category.

I see his point.

The Wilderness and Survival forum covers all aspects of those topics, but there isn't enough meat to a lot of those threads. But that's because the topics posted don't cover broad areas most of the time.

A forum's topics are only as good as the initial posts. Mr. Blue Sky should start some broader topics in those areas and we'll see where that goes. My instinct is that they will be well-received.

OK, I can do that. Is it cheating to start a thread with a little explanation and asking others to contribute too? I think some might be reluctant to start threads that seem out of place for the forum's guidelines w/o a green light so to speak.

Wilderness & Survival Skills All aspects of survival skills, technique, environment and gear are open for discussion. Learn, teach and share...

I don't think what you suggest is at all out of place for the forum's guidelines: Wilderness (& Survival) Skills. Go right ahead and start discussions of where you went and what you did -- or plan on, or wonder about how-to -- and I think you'll find a lot of enthusiasm, complete with pictures added.

After all, what better way to discuss survival techniques than by recalling what worked in actual wolderness experiences? And every wilderness experience doesn't have to be a survival emergency. Enjoying and thriving under circumstances that the inexperienced might see as life-threatening is part of the fun.
