I don't think you'll be finding any SFNO's, so I wouldn't get my hopes up on one of those. They go quick, and are in upwards of $600-$750. Nice knife, but not worth that much to most of us. The NO-e is a great knife, I'd highly recommend that one, you could find one for around $400....I've sold 2 for about that much recently. The Anniversary SH-1 should be coming out soon too! I'm waiting on that one for my 6'' user. I'd go with either that or the NO-e for the size you're talking. Another good one in the area that can still be found is the BIBB. It's 3/16'', light, but can still do some good chopping while being decent for smaller stuff.

do you have the sjtac? or sh satin jack? and which outlaw are you considering?

if you have the tac, and i assume you mean the ergo outlaw, i found them very similar. it will probably boil down to which handle you find more comfortable.

if you have an older sh sj, i doubt it will do very well at chopping.

and if you are looking at an sfno, then that knife is hard to beat. best of all worlds.

Please PM or email me with the location of the SFNO you are trying to buy and I'll try to help you out.

I really dig the SFNO....I just refuse to pay almost double the price. My justification is that it'll be back in another year or two and I can buy a couple/few. The SH-1A will be enough to make me happy. I really like that knife even though I haven't held or used one I know I'll be pretty jazzed when they come out!

I don't have a SJ so can't offer you an in-hand comparison but I just wanted to say that NO ONE will be prying my SFNO out of my hands short of an uber-hog offering me an entire drawer/shelf(overflowing with goodies only) of their vault. I was going to use an exclamation point there but then people might think I was kidding. And I'm not- really, really not.

FWIW, I suspect the SJ will chop almost as well as the SFNO while being able to perform finer tasks a little bit better than it. I'd keep it and wait for the Anniversary SH myself, if I were you.

The SJ is a nice knife that should serve your purposes well. The handles are a bit on the thin side, but that could be fixed by using some canvas tape/wrap like Cliff Stamp uses on his SHBM to thicken it up a bit.

Of course some prefer the thinner handles...I'm kinda in the middle...on some knives it works though. I like thin scales on a SHBM.

The NO has more blade width and is therefore more substantial than the SJTAC.

I believe the NO would be ideal at the all-around chores you might encounter camping.

The SJTAC, in it's standard form, seems to be an excellent fighter.

It's pointy, relatively thin, and is very responsive in the hand.

These are not, however, the characteristics of a capable chopper.

The NO-e will be a better chopper than a SJTAC, but the SJTAC may do a little better at detail work.

They're very similiar, but i'd prefer the NO-e, just slightly...

I've got a SJTAC, SJTACLE and an NOE. As far as a camping knife, I'd pick hte NOE. Hands down. That fat steel is so much nicer.

Runner up is the SJTACLE. But this is probably 100-150 more than a NOE. And I don't think it has the blade-weight for chopping.

Last is the SJTAC. I'm not keen on it. I keep it only b/c it's a snakeskin scaled knife and I LOVE snakeskin. Too thin and light for a camp knife. It's more of a fighter feel to it.

I really wasn't fond of the SH-E I had and sold it. Now that I have the NO-E, I wonder why I sold it. LOL

You young guys can always wait it out. :D

When you get over 40, you begin to understand just how many times the carousel might go around again. :)

Really??? Is the SFNO going to be re-released at some point? because that would be excellent.

Apparently yes....just at an un announced time. It might not be exactly the same as before, but I know it won't disappoint. Might even be better. The first two were winners. I'll bet it'll be the same SFNO. The only knives of the new line that won't be reintroduced are the LE's. That was a one time thing. I'm looking forward to the SH's and the NO's.

C'mon, two years isn't soo bad! I'll bet it won't be any longer than that....after all, it should be one of the first knives to be reintroduced :D

The SH-1A will be more than enough to fill the 6'' blade slot in the meantime

I know I said I wouldn't pay that price, but that's only because I can wait it out. If you've got the money and want it now.....all the more power to ya ;). If the SHBM's were going to be re-released I'd totally wait!
