Outsmarted myself again

I was showing one of our maintenence guys how I put a zip tie on my SNG as a Wave this morning in front of a couple of the company officers and when I demonstrated it I cut my finger on the zip tie (even though I did file it a bit) pretty badly. My expression didn't change  but I immediately put my hand behind my back so they couldn't see and kept talking to them. Well, they knew what was up when blood started dripping behind me and they all started laughing at me. I did clarify though that it was the zip tie, not the knife that got me. I'm glad I work in an office where they don't care what I have on me as long as I don't pull it on someone. :) Besides myself anyway. :D

Just thought it was funny,

Can't wait to see the eBay auctions for confiscated zip ties! Those things are dangerous...

I often round off the edges of plastic by slightly melting it using my trusty Bic lighter.

In cases like this where I outsmart myself I like to describe the situation as, "a battle of wits without a shot fired".

Ya, me dum. Funny though that my first big knife cut was done by a zip tie. Maybe I should sharpen a couple up and use them instead. ;)

...So, what you are saying is that if you need to cut something, that you'll use the zip-tie, rather than the blade?.:D.:D.

It sure seemed sharp enough this morning...

What, exactly, is the RC/Hardness of a zip tie?
It sounds like Mr. Clark might know, as he does his own "heat treating"..... :D

Sounds as if that zip-tie plastic is really holding an edge :). I can see it already, the new super bladematerial: CPM Szip-tieV.

oof, that's harsh, my heart goes out to you, must've felt like a paper cut x2.. now, just don't go touching the bathroom doors & faucet handles with that cut finger. office dwellers have some mean-ass cooties.

I suppose Illinois will now outlaw zip ties, as a potential danger to aircraft.
:grumpy:

Naw, they're legal in Illinois til you use it as a weapon. If you're in Chicago or Peoria though it can't be over 3". :D Plus, they don't set off metal detectors.

Actually it was a pretty clean cut, I just touched it up on my sharpmaker. ;)
