any ideas on large folders(over4")no lockbacks as they always loosen.ijust bought a cold steel 4" voyager on recommendation of some forum members against my better judgement as i've never had one that didn't loosen blade to spine. true to form it came with great lockup but within two weeks it loosened under normal usage. thanks, seventrees

Whenever I think large folder, I think SIFU!

A large cold steel twistmaster. good price and a simple lock that relly works and quite good steel.

Sifu - there's nothing else in its class.

The MicroTech SOCOMs have blades that are technically over the 4" mark (4.05" I believe) and they are extremely well made and very strong. And if you're considering something from the custom side of the house, I can't imagine a folder getting any better than my large Apogee by Darrel Ralph. 4.25" of super sharp, recurved S90V.

Someone suggested the Spyderco Military. Great knife, I bet...but doesn't meet the 4" requirement. It's 3 7/8". But if you're not THAT picky, I'm sure you'd do well buyiong this piece.

I don't own a piece over 4"...in fact the largest folder I own is a CRKT KFF (3.87"). However, from what I've read and learned, seems like the SIFU is your best bet. It is the only "megafolder" out there, and possesses a lock considered superior in strength than most (rolling-lock).

HOWEVER, this piece comes with a whopping 5.4" blade, and overall length comes to 12". So, unless you don't mind its huge size, I'm sure there are many great 4"-5" folders. The thing I find dissappointing is that none of these possess an Axis or Rolling lock. I don't really know much about 4"-5" knives, since I rarely look at them. I have no need for them and they would only attract trouble if I carry them. I always prefer and stay between 3"-4" blades.

So, in conclusion, I would get this knife... however I have no use for such a big knife. I would never attempt to carry it, since there is no way I can get around legal hurdles. Plus, you can do most things with a 3"-4", including self-defense.

Hope this helps,

If you have to go over4 inches, then the SIFU is pretty much the only game in town. Buck Strider is 4 inches, Microtech SOCOM is 4.05. The only other thing close that I can think of is the Benchmade 710, with a 3.9 inch blade and the axis lock. From what people around here have apparently been able to test, all the locks on the ones above are pretty much equal in pure strengh, although the Sifu and the axis lock seem to be the most reliable regarding "shock" loads.

Sifu! It flies open, rock solid lock. I have a hard time waiting for the D2 2000 version with only the one finger groove, to feel the difference!
