This is a little embarrassing since i'm so new to this, but as I start to work on my first original knife I want to put a name on it that is not already in use. I've googled "Over Hill Knives" without finding another maker and am asking that anyone knowing of a knife maker using a similar name please let me know. Thank you.

You would be better off using your actual name. his has been discussed many times on this forum. If someone saw one of your knives, they might have a hard time finding "Over Hill Knives", but a mark using your name and location would make it easier. Years from now, no one may be able to associate you with the mark unless you use your name. I think it also shows pride in your work when you put your name on the blade.

If you are named Clarence Hill, then it is a good maker mark.
If you are named Henry Jones, I wouldn't pick "Uncle Henry Knives"....but I wouldn't use "Over Hill Knives", either.

In most cases, your name is the best thing. Ask, Moran, Buck, Loveless, Schrade, etc.

I agree; you will want to be known by your given name within the knife community.

There is a dutch knifemaker in Rotterdam called 'Hill knives"; they make very exclusive knives with engravings....prices up to $8.000,- and more.
