Hey, autos are legal in Tx and 5 1/2 " blade length. My question is , I hear there is a overall length of 10 1/2 " restriction. Anyone know for sure ?

never heard it, never seen it. Last time I checked it was not part of the state description for an illegal knife

Nope. No OAL limit.

There are a lot of other things you can't carry - dirks, daggers, double edged blades, bowie knives (in Texas! for shame!), etc. Also illegal are saps, bludgeons, truncheons, batons, asps, etc. The length restriction is on the blade only. 5.5 inches - fixed or folder. You could presumably have a fixed blade with a 12 inch handle. As long as the blade is not longer than 5.5 inches, you're fine.

5.5" blade limit, nothing related to OAL, although the way in which blade length is measured has been known to vary in certain jurisdictions.
