I just got myself a large 21 and I am having difficulties deploying the blade. My problem is getting the detent to release.

Is there a trick or known method that someone can share with a newbie?

Try not to squeeze the lock when deploying the blade. You may think you are not but you probably are a little.

Yeah, I realized that too. Resting my fingers below the clip level does not give me enough grip to deploy.

Maybe I should try again when my disfigured thumb recovers.

I have had older & used sebenzas and they release effortlessly.

Is there a way to loosen the detent's grip?

Just going to have to break her in. I wouldn't suggest (would actually suggest against) messing with the detent. While you're breaking it in I find it easy to put my index finger on top of the handle and then moving it when the blade swings up. On a dual thumb stud model you can put your index finger on the opposite thumb stub from where your thumb is. Good luck.

It will break in just fine, better too strong than not strong enough IMO. Watch some tv and open and close it a bunch of times if you want to speed up the process.

As others have said.....it will break in just takes times. I trashed my thumb on a Large Insingo I got but after a while it become buttery smooth as all do after breaking in.

Thanks for all the wisdom and encouragement. My thumb can well do with a rest presently. Lol

Have Eric show you how when you guys meet up. The trick is to NOT press on top of the stud, but apply pressure from the side, I push the blade out at a 45 deg angle.

Problem solved today. I traded my new 21 with a friend that has a broken in large insingo.
Even if I am not happy, my thumb will surely be. Lol
