Buyer: I am looking for a single blade knife about as big as this one to replace one I broke. Do you have any with single blades?

Seller: How about this one? It's a nice one.

Buyer: What is the blade made out of?

Seller: That there is premium steel.

Buyer: How much does it cost?

Seller: Hmmm, I'd let that one go for $30.

   (premium steel???)

OR

Buyer: I want that one.

Seller: Which one?

Buyer: That one, right there. (Buyer points)

Seller: Oh, that's a good one. The nice thing about these is that they actually work.

When I looked to see what it was the guy was buying, it was some new POS semi-auto pistol with a price tag of $175. I didn't know anyone made them that cheap, nor did I know that I guess you are supposed to be surprised when a gun works. Hmmm...

Alas, no INFI to be found anywhere. I scoured the place, but saw nada. I will say two things though:

1. I saw a ton of knives and had no interest in 99.99% of them. I attribute that disinterest to a subconcious comparison to the standard, the Busse standard that is. Everything else seems ... blah. The .01% that did interest me were some Shadley slipjoints. Oh, also the Freddy Krueger knife glove...saweeeeeeeeeeeeeettttttttttttt!!! (j/k)

2. Mulder needs to hurry up with this passaround thing!!!:D

I've had that same experience more times than I can count...

If I counted the 10 dollar entry fee to every gun / knife show for the last couple years, it's going to make that obscure Busse knife that I'll one day find for 100 dollars more like 500 dollars anyway...

BLADE however -- now that's a SURE THING

You gonna be there Xaman???

We're still shooting for it, but that darn target is really out there and expensive! :o

Yep, I'm planning / hoping to be there...

The word on the street is that the Leathermans are for sure coming -- you have to go now!!! :D

You can get the misses to drive and do some stitching along the way (I'm guessing it's about a 14 or 15 hour drive for you :o )

I had a fellow ask me about SureFire Lights at Knob Creek. "What makes them a $100 flashlight? Who do they think they are?"

I explained that my many SFs were exellant lights, absolutely trouble free and durable. He couldn't believe it and stomped off. I was just buying batteries and he didn't even give the seller a chance to demonstrate one.

Oh well.

well at least he got a matched set..
POS gas station knife w/ POS gas station pistol.

All I can think is it takes time to find value in quality.

A little over two years ago, it was impossible for me to conceive spending more than $100 for a knife. Nothing I ever saw seemed worth more than that.

Then I got around people who's lives relied on having the best knife they could get. Then I found out what the smartest of the bunch were turning to, then I started researching it and finding out that really smart, knowledgable folks were endorsing the product.

That's when my mind changed, and I realized that I had to have the best. Only then did I start dropping dime on Busse products.

It will be the same for the best in other categories as well. A blank of INFI that has been tooled and crafted into a blade in and of itself doesn't warrant the price we pay, until we realize that so many other people smarter than we are will gladly pay said price.

It is not only addictive, it is contagious. Knowing what we now know, why on earth do we go bragging about it to the uninitiated? This creates unwanted competition, though perhaps it is with increased demand we are hoping that the powers that be will increase supply, yeilding ever increasing quantities of "The INFI". In this way, with ever increasing amounts of INFI circulating in public, we might hope to acquire more for ourselves. Yes, in this madness, there is a cunning scheme; to find more ways to get the Busse boys to keep increasing production, until the market is glutted, and then I, er we, can obtain more INFI, ha ha ha ha ha....
