I just realized that I have missed a handy peice of equipment for my BOB. I am now putting a small LCD T.V. in my two kits. A great sorce of information complete with visual to pick up local broadcasts. Local stations will still be able to transmit even if cable is down. I just picked up two RCA Color models from pawn shops and paid less than $45.00 for the pair. The reception is great on both and they run on 4 AA batteries each. Les than a pound each and will be able to keep me up to date on weather and news. I will still carry my radio and weather radio in the bags. I just think they are worth the weight and space. Any pros or cons?

If visuals are not needed, getting a radio that can receive TV audio is a viable alternative.

The Sangean DT-200V (discontinued) or current DT-210V are AM/FM/TV pocket radios that could do the trick.

While you all are watching TV and listenting to the radio, you might throw some gingersnap cookies in for something to munch. Especially if you get a headache from watching that tiny little screen, lol. Ginger is a terrific headache remedy and in my humble opinion, taste pretty good too. :p

Great idea. I always carry crystalised ginger in my packs. It is great for motion sickness and upset stomach. Ginger beer is good for a soar throat. I have used ground ginger and ground cloves in a folded coffee filter to ease the pain of a sore tooth.

Picked up a Brunton solar recharger for $20 at Sportsmans warehouse. Cabela's has em too. It works on AA rechargable batteries. Got it for the GPS, but the little TV is something I'll look into.

Hey, the best thing I've ever found for toothache when you're in the field is to put an asperin between your offending tooth & the gum. Just let it dissolve there. Pain is gone within an hour. It's hard on the skin inside the mouth, but no permanent damage. Long lasting relief too.

Between my scanners and ham radio stuff I usually have a few things that can receive just about any broadcast, plus being able to listen in on police/fire/etc...

A do-everything HT is nice. I like my VX-5, but there are several now that have lots more features(besides the big brother VX-7). I suppose you could get the best of both worlds by picking up an Icom IC-R3(I think). It has a built-in LCD and can receive television in addition to all-band receive.
