My Case Mini-blackhorn, a small single blade lockback about half the price of a medium soddie. Nothing extraordinary about it, linerless, case SS, cool long pull (need more of these in the case catalog!)
This was the last knife i bought almost a year ago, impulse buy... well got to thinking i'd try a swedge on it, long pull needs a swedge! Well after almost screwing it up with a dremel (:() i went back to files etc. and here it is along with my jumbo amber bone stockman i received in april of last year and is one of my edc's, bone has aged nicely, it's been in pocket daily since then and i lightly sanded down the peaks about 8 months ago...
But the Mini blackhorn is a great little knife, light, works great and sharpens nicely, takes a swedge too! It's my edc at the gym (yeah i know, i just feel naked without a pocket knife on me:D)
thanks

You've got a couple of nice carries there. Nice swedge too!

Nice Cases.I had a Gerber similar to that one in plastic. I used a diamond file to cut swedges in my Amherst trapper.I don't have good luck with dremels either.

I like the mini-blackhorn. I feel its a reel nice and afordable case knife. I noticed that a few of my co-workers carry this knife. I have engraved my name on the handle just to make sure mine stays mine.

yeah, i had that moment of almost instantaneous regret when i started in with it, fortunately came to my senses, i'm just not a dremel master:D
Thanks

how the bone changes, the inset pict with the revolver was a week after i got it apr 2009, since then the bone has yellowed and darkened a bit, could that be from the brass? dunno
Thanks guys

Don't feel bad, I carry a knife in the gym as well, also when jogging, and yes even swimming at the ocean or lake or pool(something w/a pocketclip). Like you I just feel naked w/o a knife, and the one time you don't carry it is when you're gonna need it!

A knife knut has to have a knife on him. I does not matter if you're going for a swim, working out at the gym, weddings, funerals, getting out of bed in the middle of the night more often as you get older.

All kidding aside, I can see how the mini blackhorn can be a great under estimated edc. When I was having my hand problems, and I was walking around post surgery with one hand wrapped in enough gauze to make a mummy, I carried the small lockblade. Some friends gave/loaned me an assortment of lockers, and a couple of them were the black zytel jobs. A mini Buck, a Case like this one, and a Gerber LST of all things.

I admit, that I carried them on a trial basis. I was surprised at how they really did disappear in a pocket till needed. Easy to open, impervious to everything short of a nuclear blast, they do make a nice knife for somebody who does not care about 'soul' if that is the right word.

I guess if I were not so biased to jigged bone and stag, I would carry one. Good cutting in a very light weight package. What's not to like.

Carl.

Always liked having a 'beater' handy for those times when a heavier knife just isn't practical. Mine is an LST but you have me interested in the blackhorn. Handy looking little knife. Nice swedge. Too bad they can't do this at the factory for those of us who aren't so handy.

Brass does 'bleed' depending on how moist it gets and reaction to surrounding elements and other metals. So this is likely what is occurring with the bone changing colour. Constant use, oils, sweat, water and exposure to sunlight also play a significant role, but I suspect the brass is a catalyst. Looks a lot more appealing too:D

Nice work on the swedge, gene! I've seen those mini-blackhorns in the big box home improvement stores but never grabbed one - I think I'll give one a try. Very nice aging on the stockman - beautiful color and texture on the handles!

yep got mine at one of those, cheap too! not perfect but its solid and with a little spiffing up,i have a nice little gym short knife!:D
on the bone, just lucky i suppose, didnt alter the color artificially... just aging gracefully i suppose, and the more the jigging gets worn off it begins to look a little like cheetah spots or maybe peachseed...
thanks guys

I've always wondered about those little zytel Cases. That one looks pretty nice with the swedge, I may pick one of those up for the collection. I've never met a Case I didn't like! I carried one of the little Buck lockbacks for a while back in the 80's, and it always served me well (until I lost it).

That stockman is looking pretty good! I've noticed that a couple swipes with some sandpaper improves the look of Case's amber bone significantly. I've done that to all of mine. I love the "aged" look. One of these days, I'll have to settle down to one knife and carry it for a few years, but that seems increasingly unlikely.

HAH ..... good one, Andy! Did ya hear the one about the .....? :D

Gene, peachseed or cheetah spots is a great way to describe that very handsome stockman!

I had one of these Blackhorns that I used to whittle with for a while. Great little knife. It is now in my 10 year old son's collection as he really liked it.

I'm definitely going to look into picking up another one. For the price you can't beat it. Although I might look into the Buck slimline series, either a Prince (503)or a Knight(505). Little more robust, but I think that they would fill the same niche.
