Oversized Pivot Pins

I just bought some 3/16 pivot pins from Les Halpern. Yup, you guessed it, they are just a smidgeon oversized. I check the whole bag of 10 and they are all about the same. I have a set of calipers but it is so crummy that it's only good for comparisons between objects, not determining actual thicknesses.

Anyhow, what is the best solution for getting them to go through the pivot holes? I do not own a lathe so turning them is out. Do they make fractional sized reamers? What do you guys do when this happens (and I know it does!)?

Pete,

get an MSC catolog and you will find a reamer in there that should be 1/2 a thousands oversized of 3/16. I have reams over and unde .125 for just this purpose.

Peter, you might want to check to see if they flair out right at the end where the screw enters. Take a little length off one of them and see if it fits your pivot hole. I found this works with ones I've had.

Well, the flared end solution turned out to be the right one. As soon as I took off a couple of thousandths, the pin slipped right into the hole. Thanks Andrew!
