Overstrike wrap ?

Hey everybody im modding a frontier hawk and i have a question do you sew your leather overstrike right on your handle or do you sew the leather then slip it on ? This is the last thing i have to do to finish this hawk and i wanted to be sure befofe i do anything . Thanks Rich

I would suggest sewing it right on the haft and using a baseball stitch. Under cut your leather by about 1/8 inch depending on how much it stretches so when you sew it it pulls together. I can post a pic if you need it.

Hey Rich, another thing you can do is use wet rawhide and undercut it as it will shrink as it dries and tighten right up. Rawhide dog bones have pieces big enough, you can usually buy them at dollar stores.

Yea i read that somewhere here just wanna keep it the same leather as the sheath im making got the leather from a old pair of austrian ranger boots i have . Looks like i can get enough from the top of each boot to make 2 sheaths and 2 overstrikes . Got a fort turner on the way ! Dont think im gonna put a overstrike on that one though so i can get the head off . Still learning with the leather work gonna give it my best shot
